I just want to scream!! A colleague in the office accused me of being unprofessional today just because I jokingly mentioned a little about her work. The nerve she has!!! And she said it infront of 5 other people and bring the issue as a team problem!! I was boiling inside. But I managed to keep my composure!

I was pretty proud of myself and all the time I maintained my cool - making her look like a fool. I spoke calmly and seeing me not getting upset outwardly was even more unnerving for her! i rule

My other collueague later came and said that she was glad I did not stoop to her (the other collegue') level. They saw how clouded she was and irrational she looked.

Oh well...I guess without saying very much, people could sieve the right from the wrong.

That is never comfortable. Bravo YOU!
If you gave criticism constructively and she jumped on you.... how very sad for her.

Yay for you, for keeping your cool. I have a hard time keeping my cool when I get angry at work. So I really do applaud you Smiley

Congratulations on keeping your cool! Cheesy

I always wished I could be like that, but I blush so easily that people would think I was upset before I even was.

Then they'd tell me not to get upset, and I'd explode at their patronising manner.

Mind you, that was in high school.
So, quite a few years ago, without getting too specific.
Okay, it was 20 years ago. Tongue

These days I don't care what people think so much.
I'll just tell them to get over themselves. Wink

I am with Tracey on this...I am soooo glad I don't have to put up with that anymore.  I was an Office Manager, who had to hire the assistant GM's daughter who was without manners, and you talk about biting my tongue.  It has a permanent scar.  I finally went to the GM and asked what I should do, and three weeks later I was fired.  Even though he heard some of the comments made to me when I asked her politely to do something.

Now I wish I hadn't kept my cool, but am glad I didn't stoop to her level, even if I could have gotten that low.

Nancy,

Did you file against them for firing you?

I wish I could have, but I could not prove that was the reason.  You see Michigan is an employer at will state.  They do not have to give you a reason for firing you.  They simply had to say "Your services are no longer needed" or something to that affect.  Believe me I did look into it.  My husband is a member of the UAW and we have free legal services, so I did check with them about my legal rights.

Also I had no written documentation that this is what happened, it was basically my word against theirs.

Unless you document, document, document there is very little you can do.  When she first started giving me problems, I should have documented it.  But I was trying to be miss nice person.  If there was ever another situation like this I would be a bitch and document.

This is one of the reasons why I work from home now.  I don't like corporate politics of any kind.

Nancy,

I really do relate. I worked at home from 1983 until about 2000. Then in 2000 a job kind of fell into my lap. It was about 20 hours per week and I said yes. I was off holidays and summers. I was also off to pick my daughter up every afternoon from school.

Then in 2004, I was volunteering one afternoon a week and they couldn't keep one desk filled. They offered me the job. It was still 20 hours per week, but more money and benefits. I said yes. I'm still there today. However I now work 30-40 hours per week.

It's huge going from working alone and for yourself to working for someone else.

Alright, that was a good one!  I haven't worked for years (well, outside of my home!) but when I did it was with women and I was management.  They work together, they get their periods together, and then they would line up and bitch together.

Ah, good times.
