How many blog directories do you submit your blogs to?  And is it on a regular basis or only once?

I haven't done this yet and am wondering if I should?

Submitting to directories is great for your search engine rankings. I spent a whole day submitting to various directories (some paid, some reciprocal link, some just free) and noticed my traffic increasing from google and other search engines quickly. So is definitely worth doing, even if just a little bit. I like to have a "promo day" once a week or two (I have several sites so probably just once a month or every two/three months would work if you have one blog/site) where I submit to more directories and things like that.

It is always a good idea to read the fine print to see what could get your listing removed or how long it stays!  If you follow the rules of the directory, you shouldn't have to resubmit your blog. Maybe keep a list and check on your listings from time to time.

For the directories with yearly fees, a few times I have requested to set up a subscription payment if it wasn't an option. Some directories have a yearly fee but don't remind you or invoice you for a new year and just remove your listing. If your like me and have submitted your site to hundreds of places, you won't even notice but could be missing out. Or if you have a calendar service with your email, schedule a reminder that your time is up and to check on it.

One important thing with directories, and link exchanges in general, is make sure to check out the site you are linking with thoroughly. I submitted my site to a very popular reciprocal link blog directory that didn't allow adult sites. But the #1 spot for my category was an adult site. I started seeing references to a major blocking service (used by employers) in my error logs. As soon as I removed the reciprocal link on my site to that particular blog directory from my site, the errors stopped. Who you are linked to is important. You can be "guilty by association" on the web easily.
