I have a few different blogs.... and every one of them gets these darn spammers - I just recently deleted more than 2000 spam comments that had accumlated on one.  I have them all set to where I have to approve so they don't show up ont he blog - but on my business blog I finally had to close the comments because these people have no mercy.

What amazes me is that they even do this because they have to know that their comments, most of the time, are NOT going to be seen or viewed but just deleted.

Same here.  I figure a lot of them must be bots, because who would be stupid enough to post the same spam comment hundreds of times and get it deleted every time???

exactly.

we also have the problem on one site of ours where we have a free directory - i have, literally every day, more than 1000 entries to delete.  thank goodness I can go into the mysql and do that.  But I still have to browse each one to make sure I'm deleting a real listing that someone submitted.

Wow!  What a pain to have to deal with that many everyday.  I thought I was getting a lot, but compared to you I don't have it so bad.

I do have to use one of those code verification thingees though which really helps.

That is A LOT!!!

I had to add the word verification thing (ughh) and I have it set up to moderate as well.  I was only getting like 5 a day, but it was enough to bug the snot out of me!

I've thought about taking off the comment gates and see if I get the spammers again. But I'm not so sure.

I use Wordpress and I get a ton, but I have a widget set to block all of the ones that it thinks are spam and put them in a queue for me to moderate later. Can I import a word verification thingy into wordpress?

I had my blog set for me to moderate comments, but then I feel like I need to hang around and get them posted.  As soon as I had them opened (this past Saturday morning) I did get two spams.

I will leave the moderator thing open for now unless it gets to bad.  What is the purpose of some guy from Inda saying something stupid about:

I know you are busy I will let you go for now.

How does that guy benefit, I don't understand that .

This has been irking me lately as well! Why do people fel the need to do this?? I think thye need t get another hobby lol.

I have parents reading my blogs, I don't need things like links to porn or whatever. Luckily, I have an IP bannig button lol. Just click that and they can't get in...until they get a new IP.

I had mine set to moderate, and word verification.  I was getting too many random posts in one day, so I took that off today, to see if the weird ones stay away, and so far they have!!! Smiley

I use a spam filter on my blog (wordpress) called akismet. I think it comes with the installation now.  It is effective at stopping spam from coming through on my blog and it saves them so I can go through them from time to time and do a mass deletion.

I tried the captcha plugin for a few days, and it did function, but I really hate having to do that when I comment on blogs and think I probably comment less on blogs that require that so I took it back off of mine.

My blog is pretty  new though compared to a lot of yours and I dont get but maybe 20 spams a day or so at the most.

I use Akismet with Wordpress, too, and it's pretty effective.  Some days I get a ton of spam, some days I get one or two.
