I'll help you get started as much as I can!

Basically, its a combination of those "status updates" you see on MySpace and Facebook but its limited to 140 characters, kinda like text messages are.

You post updates either through the Twitter website or via text message from your phone. People send all kinds of strange and funny things, something funny your kid just said, where you're going for lunch, sharing a link to your latest blog post...  Try visiting some of the Twitter profiles posted here to get an idea of what people say.

You can also reply to someone else's Twitter update (those are called "Tweets"). Thats why you'll see the @ sign a lot. That means someone has replied to someone else.

There are also Direct Messages, called DMs, which is a private message that only you and the other person can see. For example, I post an update that says "If anyone wants a coupon for a free tank of gas, DM me your email" you would send me a Direct Message with your email address and only I would see it.

Oh, and when you "follow" someone, that means you have them on your friends list and whenever they post updates, you'll see them. If someone is following you, then your Tweets will show up on their page. There are also options to block people from viewing yours or make your Tweets only viewable by people you choose.

There's all kinds of extras like getting notifications sent to you via text that I can explain once you get the hang of the basics.

Yeah I am a twitter luvr   My twitter(s) is in my signature.

If you are new to twitter I suggest you go to http://twirl.com and download their free application for twitter.

Most people are used to an instant messenger interface - Well twirl creates that kind of feel.
Once you download it you can customize the look and size etc.

The coolest thing is that everytime you get a reply to your tweets - a little bubble slides up to alert you. It isn't obnoxious though. Instead of scrolling down a webpage and flipping back and forth - all you have to do with twirl is click on the icon in your tray tool bar. Very handy & cool
