Petoskey and Charlevoix are lovely! In fact, there is a terrific bike trail (about 20 easy miles) between the two. I believe it is part of the rails to trails system. There are some lovely smaller lakes up that way as well. Torch Lake is probably one of the most beautiful lakes we have ever played on. It is crystal clear and it reflects the blues and greens of the Caribbean. It is cold though. That does not ever seem to bother the kids! There is a great public park on the northwest side of the lake that is fairly quiet and provides a great picnic spot. On the west you could visit Sleeping Bear Dunes and the quaint towns of Frankfort and Beulah. As you can see, I just love it up there.
Great ideas. Thank you! I will definitely pass them onto my husband. He's in major looking mode right now, but there seems to be so much to do up there, it's a bit overwhelming. I wouldn't mind going to Mackinac again, I could totally live there, but I think he's ready to try something new.
